AUSTIN, Texas — Erika Lopez is KVUE's chief meteorologist. She formally served as KVUE's Daybreak meteorologist before moving to our sister station in Houston in April 2019, where she worked as KHOU's 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. meteorologist.
Erika's experience in forecasting ranges from major flooding events in Central Texas to tropical systems moving in from the Gulf of Mexico. She has also forecast on a national platform and has storm chasing experience across the Central Plains.
Erika was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where her love for meteorology began as a little girl every year during monsoon season. She graduated with a B.S. in atmospheric science with an emphasis in meteorology and climatology from Arizona State University. She began her career in Victoria, Texas, in 2014 before moving to Denver, Colorado, to work for Weather Nation TV in 2015. She worked as KVUE's Daybreak Meteorologist from 2017 to 2019.
Erika is recently married to her long time sweetheart who just so happens to be from the Austin area. On their time off, they love spending time with their animals, gardening, being active, listening to live music and grilling steaks while watching the Texas sunsets.
