Chelsea Cunningham is a digital journalist at KVUE in Austin, Texas, specializing in general assignment reporting, lifestyle reporting and social and web analytics.
She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on an athletic scholarship for the division 1 Saluki volleyball team. During school, Cunningham served as secretary for the National Association of Black Journalists and worked as a reporter and producer for the school's student-run broadcast news station: River Region Evening Edition.
In 2014, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Radio, Television and Digital Media: Electronic Journalism and a minor in geography. Shortly afterward, she accepted her first full-time job in journalism as a content producer for the Gannett Talent Development program at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado.
Cunningham made her way to Central Texas for the first time in June 2015 after accepting a job as an associate producer. She was challenged with producing several newscasts, running the assignment desk, and writing for KVUE.com. During June 2016, Cunningham moved over to the digital news department solely and works with other members of the digital team to keep the KVUE website and social media pages consistently updated. When Cunningham is not in the newsroom, she is often out covering festivals like SXSW, ACL Music Festival and film premieres happening around Central Texas.
