There are new investigative eyes on the South Austin hit-and-run case that left a woman severely injured.
KVUE's and the Austin American-Statesman's Tony Plohetski has learned that the case has been transferred from highway enforcement investigators to the Austin Police Department's special investigations unit. That is significant because the unit is typically assigned to cases involving public officials or law enforcement.
On Feb. 9, a woman was struck by a pickup in the parking lot located near Interstate 35 and East Ben White Boulevard. APD said they have impounded a truck and have a person of interest. Investigators are trying to determine who may have been driving that truck.
APD sent the following video of the incident with hopes that the public could help identify the vehicle:

Meanwhile, a police officer for the Austin Independent School District has been placed on leave, according to officials. Sources have told Plohetski this case is the reason for the school district's move.
