ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Starting on March 6, the City of Round Rock will begin rolling out a new utility system they say will help residents manage usage and make payments more effectively.

RRTXWater will launch on Tuesday with a new online portal at RRTXWater.com. This new system will be Round Rock's first implementation of a new utility billing system in more than 20 years. Residents will still be able pay bills in person, city leaders said, or they can register online for the convenient and user-friendly access to account information and data. There will no longer be transaction fees for any payment methods when the system launches.

However, no online bill payments are currently being accepted. Until March 6, residents can pay bills by check or money order at the City Hall drop-off box at 221 E. Main Street, or by mail.

The City's Utility Billing Office is closed this Thursday through Monday and will not accept walk-in traffic, phone calls or online payments due to their transition to the new system.

"The City of Round Rock is committed to working with residents through the entire month of March to ensure as smooth of a transition as possible to the new system," City leaders said in a press release. "Over time, RRTXWater will track and compare water usage to allow residents and City leaders to make decisions based on real-time data. Future plans for the service include a robust mobile app, which will include the ability to pay bills using smartphone technology and give users instant access to their information."

Here's a further breakdown on how customers can pay their bills after the March 6 rollout and how their payment methods will be affected:

- Online payment: One-time payments can be made through the new customer portal launching March 6 at RRTXWater.com. There will no longer be a transaction fee for paying with a credit or debit card.

- Credit/debit card auto-pay: Current auto-pay customers will need to set up a new auto-pay account on the new portal at RRTXWater.com.

- Direct bank draft: These payments will continue to be processed.

- Online banking: Customers will be issued a new account number that will need to be used to update their online bill pay.

- 24-hour deposit box: Located by the drive-through at City Hall, 221 E. Main Street. Check or money orders only.
