Hummers that winter in Texas (after nesting in faraway states like Wyoming and Oregon) show at my feeders when natural sources of nectar are frozen. For the first time in years, the syrup concoction (4 parts water boiled with 1 part sugar) keeps freezing. We rotate feeders, to provide syrup outside while syrup thaws inside.
Mark Klym, of Texas Parks & Wildlife, identifies this as either a Rufous or a Broad-tailed. He cannot see enough of the back and tail for a positive identification.
