AUSTIN – Following the city’s response in making hundreds of “welcome kits” for those who evacuated after Hurricane Harvey, Austin Mayor Steve Adler on Tuesday announced a toy drive for kids displaced by the storm.
“This next one is easy. In fact, you could say it's child's play,” said Adler in a release. “Blue Santa wants Austin to collect enough new toys for every Texas child displaced by Hurricane Harvey, and I think this town is up to the challenge. Let's make some happy memories for a lot of kids going through a tough time.”
The Texas Toy Drive is being conducted in partnership with Operation Blue Santa, and the community is being asked “to donate new toys, board games, playing cards, sports balls, crayons/markers/colored pencils, arts and crafts sets, coloring books, and puzzles.” Items for children of all ages are being requested.
Donations can be dropped off at the Blue Santa Warehouse, located at 4101 South Industrial Drive, #260 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations will be accepted through Sept. 15.
