Free driver license, ID replacements for Hurricane Harvey victims, DPS says

The Texas Department of Public Safety won't charge a fee for people who lost their means of identification during Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey.

DPS said people living in counties declared as disaster areas by Gov. Greg Abbott are cleared to have the $11 surcharge waived. Disaster victims are encouraged to bring other forms of identification or proof of residency they may have in their possession to the driver's license facility.

Effective immediately. residents with outstanding Driver Responsibility Program (DRP) charges have a 60 day grace period to pay their balance, according to DPS.
