AUSTIN -- Travis County commissioners are considering several county-wide changes, including a new tax rate and a road expansion plan.

On Tuesday the commissioners reviewed the proposed new tax rate for the county, which is dropping by approximately half a cent. Commissioners opened the floor for public input, but no one signed up to speak.

If approved the new rate would sit at 49.46 cents for every $100 home valuation.

“The impact on the tax bill for next year would be estimated at about $20 per year on a median valued home,” explained a county finance representative.

Another public hearing is set for Friday. Commissioners are expected to take a final vote on the rate next week.

Commissioners also considered a new road plan for the area surrounding the Circuit of the Americas track in Elroy. It’s part of an overall development plan for the region. It includes a five-lane road that runs from Pearce to Highway 71 and expands Elroy Road to four lanes from McAngus to Kellam.

Commissioners delayed taking action on the new road plan. They will take the issue up again next week.
