Strong cold front arrives Thursday evening

AUSTIN -- Get ready for a big chill as temperatures fall about 40° from Thursday’s highs in the mid 80s to Friday night’s low temperatures in the 40s.

A strong Canadian cold front will begin to push into the Northern Hill Country early Thursday evening and clear the Austin Metro around 9 p.m.. The frontal boundary will be south of the area by midnight. Rain chances with be at 30 percent from Thursday evening to Friday afternoon, to account for scattered light showers ahead and behind the front. 

The high temperature on Friday will occur just after midnight with temperatures falling into the 50s Friday morning. They will remain there for the rest of the day. Temperatures will fall into the 40s Friday night with only a few lingering showers possible.

After a chilly start Saturday afternoon, there will be decreasing clouds and a high of 60°.  Sunday will start off even colder at 45°, but sunny skies will make for a cool afternoon in the mid 60s.

UT forecast:
The Longhorns will be in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday Morning. There is an 11 a.m. kickoff temperature at 35° under mostly sunny skies.  The high on Saturday afternoon will be 49°.

Texas A&M forecast:
The Aggies will be in Auburn, Alabama Saturday night. The 6 p.m. kickoff temperature is at 59° under mostly clear skies.

Baylor forecast:
The Bears are in Ames, Iowa on Saturday Night.  The 6 p.m. kickoff temperature is at 40° under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Texas State forecast:
The 3 p.m. kickoff is in San Jose, CA.  The temperature will be 76° under mostly sunny skies on Saturday afternoon.
