AUSTIN -- Police were back at the scene Wednesday morning, hours after a fatal shooting in the 3600 block of Govalle Street in East Austin. They gathered evidence in the case of a 19-year-old woman shot to death.
Police believe Ashley Perez was shot and killed by an acquaintance around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the street at the intersection of Govalle and Kirk Streets near Airport Boulevard.
Neighbors in the normally quiet area told KVUE News that there was an altercation between Perez and a young man who neither neighbors nor police are naming.
KVUE News observed a bullet hole in a nearby house, which neighbors say happened during an exchange of gunfire.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 472-TIPS. Any tip leading to an arrest or conviction could mean a reward of up to $1,000.
