AUSTIN -- With rain starting to pick up and temperatures expected to drop, Central Texas residents should be wary of road conditions throughout the area.
Along Highway 71, several bridges have signs that warn drivers to watch for icy road conditions.
The Texas Department of Transportation began working Friday to treat roads in various Hill Country counties, saying that ice has been reported on several of the roads in the area.
A spokesperson for TxDOT said their main priority are state and U.S. highways, then other main roads. Lesser traveled FM roads might pose more of a risk if temperatures drop.
"We left because we wanted to get here before the bad weather came in, but it doesn't look that bad," said Roger Cain, whose family is on their way to a ranch in the Hill Country. "[We] have about another hour and we'll be there safe."
