Popular drive-in, restaurant, coffee shop fail health inspection

AUSTIN -- A popular drive-in, a restaurant on the drag, and a coffee shop all run into trouble with the health inspector in this Eat Drink and Be Wary.

Veggie Heaven at 1914 Guadalupe failed it's January 11th Travis County Health inspection with a score of 56.

Among the problems spotted by the inspector were roaches in the kitchen, no hot water in the mens restroom and moldy produce stored in the walk-in cooler.

On the required follow-up inspection, Veggie Heaven passed with a score of 79.

Jim's Coffee Shop, at 12832 North 183, failed its January 17th health inspection with a score of 67.  Citations noted by the inspection include improper cold holding of eggs, tomatoes and cabbage. Also raw eggs were dripping onto toast, and there was an accumulation of mold inside the ice machine.

On the required follow-up inspection, Jim's Coffee Shop passed with a score of 86.

Sonic Drive-In on 11506 North FM 620 failed its January 22nd health inspection with a score of 69. Problems included roaches on the floor of the food preparation area, a pool of water underneath the sink from leaking pipes, and deep grooves in the cutting boards filled with an accumulation of food.

On the require follow up inspection, Sonic Drive-In at 11506 North FM 620 passed with a score of 80.
