AUSTIN -- Hundreds of friends and family members filled the Army Aviation Support Facility in Austin to say goodbye to their deploying soldiers.
They will train for weeks at Fort Hood before leaving for a nine-month deployment to Kuwait. They will be providing ground support and aviation maintenance, meaning they will do a range of work including servicing black hawk helicopters in the Middle East region.
"For me, being able to go serve not only my country, but my family as well, it makes it that much more special," said specialist Emilio Juarez.
Several of the 260 soldiers have gone through multiple deployments ,including sergeant Janice Jackson. She said it's difficult being away from her two daughters and three grandchildren.
"Their lives keep going, ours stop. So when we get back home, we have to pick up the pieces to where it stopped," said Jackson.
