ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Round Rock police say a registered sex offender who was approaching young girls committed suicide after police put out a public safety bulletin about him on social media.
Police posted a notice about Robert Wooster Friday on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
Police say an investigation led to a confession from Wooster that he had been approaching young girls and offering them rides.
The notice said there were no charges pending against Wooster, but the notice had his picture, name and identifying characteristics.
"I made a decision that even though no crime had been committed, that Mr. Wooster's behavior was abnormal. I made a decision to go ahead and put a public notice out on Facebook," said Round Rock Police Chief Tim Ryle.
Ryle says Wooster fatally shot himself Friday evening.
