ROUND ROCK, Texas -- It's that growing city with a small town feel, but the city of Round Rock may be getting a lot bigger.

Once a month city leaders discuss the potential for Round Rock's today, tomorrow and future. Will Hampton with the city said this week, the city manager suggested the future could be adding a major league baseball team.

"You had Dell coming here in the '90s, Ikea, Premium Outlets and kind of that destination outlet market in the 2000s. So what is the next possible thing that is out there?" Communications Director for the City Will Hampton said. "It would be a game changer for the community. Obviously the Express have been extraordinarily successful."

Round Rock already hosts minor league team the Round Rock Express. The team attracted more than half a million fans in 2012, something general manager George King said he is proud of.

"We have become ingrained into the community, and it is a part of the fabric of what goes on here and the lifestyle here," King said about the Round Rock Express.

Unfortunately if a major league team does come to Round Rock, the minor league team would have to go.

"The Express as you know it wouldn't be what it is," King said. "That is one of the big pieces to it. You cannot co-exist in the same territory."
There are several pieces to the possibility and several questions, like whether the major league would expand or an existing team move to Round Rock.

Right now, nothing is in the works, but Hampton said an idea could be the first step to change.

"If you don't start talking about these things, they will never happen," Hampton said.
