GEORGETOWN – Dozens of Williamson County residents gathered at the steps of the historic County Courthouse Friday evening to sing Christmas carols and to witness the lighting of the trees.

Attendees may have noticed more Christmas lights than usual this year.

That’s because the city of Georgetown matched the amount of money raised by private businesses to install lighting on Georgetown’s Historic Square.

There was also a first of its kind competition between business on the Square to see who has the best window display.

KVUE also noticed a roped off area for people to sit and watch the movie “A Christmas Story” on a big screen.

"It's great. Christmas time kind of always kind of brings everyone together. It's all about family. It's all about bringing everyone together so it's always a good time", said Matthew Lester, a Georgetown resident who just moved from Houston.

If you're heading to look at the lights on the Square in Georgetown, you can vote for your favorite store front in the People's Choice Awards.

The winner will be announced December 6th.
