Eat Drink and Be Wary: Maggie Mae’s, Bill Miller BBQ and Taqueria Los Altos

AUSTIN -- In this edition of Eat Drink and Be Wary a popular Sixth Street bar and well known BBQ restaurant fail their health inspections.

We begin on Sixth Street at Maggie Mae's. It failed its June 28th Austin-Travis County health inspection with a score of 59.

Among the problems notes by the health inspector include fruit flies and evidence of rodents throughout the establishment. There was also beer in soiled, stagnant water at almost every bar, along with slime mold. Also, no soap or paper towels at the bar hand sink and hand sink in the kitchen.

On the required follow up inspection on  on August 5 Maggie Mae's passed with a score of 88.

Next stop we head South to Bill Miller BBQ at 136 West Slaughter Lane. It failed its June 11 health inspection with a score of 61.

Violations include raw meats stored next to, and on top of, ready to eat food. Also, flies in the establishment. Inspectors also found turkey, brisket and sausage held at the wrong temperature.

On the require follow up inspection on June 25, Bill Miller BBQ on West Slaughter lane scored a perfect 100.

Next we head to Taqueria Los Altos at 3301 North IH-35 failed its June 20 health inspection with a score of 69.

Violations observed by the inspector include roaches in the wait station, accumulations of food particles on plates and a cheese grater. And potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food held without a discard date.

On the required follow up inspection on July 1, Taqueria Los Altos on North IH-35 scored a 93.
