AUSTIN -- The city council voted Thursday to expand Austin by 606.7 acres. The council annexed a tract of land in Hays County off FM 967. The land contains pockets that collect rain water that feed into the Edwards Aquifer and flows into Barton Springs. Buying this property will cost the city $18 million, slightly less than its estimated value.
"It is a lot of money," said Austin Real Estate Services program manager Junie Plummer, "And we all sat down long and hard and went over those and what it meant to our program, and it continues to rank one of the highest on our criteria on our matrix."
The deal is set to close next week.
