Austin restaurants fail health inspections

AUSTIN -- Pecan Tree inside the Holiday Inn Austin Town Lake at 20 North IH 35 failed its recent Austin Travis County Health and Human Services inspection with a score of 57.

Among the problems spotted by the inspector, German cockroaches living in a deteriorated wall near the cooking equipment. Pest control was called immediately and eliminated the problem.

Chemicals were spotted being stored above and adjacent to closed containers of spices in the janitorial room.

And there was no asterisk on the menu indicating foods that are served raw or undercooked.

On the required follow-up inspection, Pecan Tree Restaurant inside the Holiday Inn Town Lake passed with a score of 94.

T & S Seafood Restaurant at 10014 North Lamar also failed a recent inspection with a score of 65.

Problems here included an insect found in flour. The inspector also spotted an employee handle dirty dishes and then clean dishes without hand washing between. And there were no soap or towels at the sink in the kitchen.

On the required follow-up inspection T & S Seafood passed with a 90.

Finally, bakery and restaurant Mi Guatelinda Panaderia y Restaurante at 9428 Parkfield Drive failed with a 61.

Problems here included several roaches in the silverware wash area. There were several cookers without thermometers. And the inspector said there was no toilet paper in the womens restroom.

On the follow-up inspection Mi Guatelinda Panaderia y Restaurante passed with a 97.
