AUSTIN -- The Austin Independent School District is moving forward with a plan to save Eastside Memorial High School from shutting down.

The School Board will meet Monday evening at AISD headquarters. It could get a final recommendation.

Low performance ratings put the school on the brink of closure. The board must make a decision soon. On Monday, a committee formed to develop the final recommendation will meet.

It comes down to two finalists: Johns Hopkins University and American Institutes for Research. The evaluation committee is going over both of their plans, dissecting everything from the commercial to the financial details.

Over the weekend parents, teachers and students got a glimpse at each proposal.

Eastside Memorial has faced numerous problems. It has a history of underperformance. For months, AISD planned to partner with the Idea Charter School program to save the school from closure. However many parents and teachers put up a fight, protesting the program.

In December AISD canceled the deal with Idea and opened up the proposal process once again.

The committee meets Monday at 6 p.m. It has until the end of the week to come up with a final recommendation for the board.
