GRANITE SHOALS, Texas -- A child has died in a mobile home fire in Granite Shoals.

According to Granite Shoals Fire Chief Austin Stanphill, the eight-year-old died in the home when it caught fire Wednesday July 10 on Kings Valley Drive.

When crews arrived on the scene, they were told a neighbor had pulled an elderly woman out of the home and that two children might still been inside.

In addition to the eight-year-old who died in the fire, a 12-year-old male relative is currently in custody, charged with arson.

The woman pulled from the blaze was treated by EMS and transported to Seton Highland Lakes Hospital for further treatment.

"The city is deeply grateful to a true hero," said Granite Shoals Police Chief J.P. Wilson about the neighbor who pulled the woman out of the mobile home.

Granite Shoals police say this tragedy hit close to home. The family is related to a city employee.

A bank account has been set up to help the family at the Anthem Bank in Granite Shoals. It's under the name, Bobby Joe Alexander.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Granite Shoals is near Marble Falls and about 60 miles northwest of Austin.
