WASHINGTON -- A furry delivery overnight came to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

Mei Xiang, the zoo's giant female panda, gave birth to a cub late Sunday.

Veterinarians haven't been able to check on the little one yet, because the mother is bonding with her newborn. But doctors have been keeping a close eye on the pair using a 24-hour "panda cam."

Normally new panda mothers will not eat, drink or leave their dens for at least a week in order to bond with their new babies.
