AUSTIN -- The Austin Animal Center is now using Twitter as an additional lost-and-found resource for all animals entering the shelter.
The center has created @austinanimals as a resource for those who have lost a pet. The Twitter account is updated every 30 minutes with stray pets that have recently entered the shelter.
“Providing multiple ways for people to find their lost pets will help us achieve our goal of keeping Austin’s pets safe and hopefully will keep their time at the shelter to a minimum,” said Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith.
The Austin Animal Center encourages people to check the other available resources for lost pets such as www.austinanimalcenter.org or the center’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/austinanimalservices.
First and foremost, the center encourages residents to come to the shelter as soon as possible if a pet is missing.
City shelter pet adoptions are available at the Austin Animal Center, located at 7201 Levander Loop, and the city’s dog overflow kennels at Town Lake Animal Center located at 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St. The centers are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
