AUSTIN -- This Saturday the Austin Humane Society welcomes kids and their stuffed animals for some tender loving care. AHS staff veterinarians will evaluate all types of stuffed dogs, cats, lions, monkeys and even birds in order to help heal every child's best friend.
Kids get to dress up in surgery attire and repair their stuffed animals alongside an AHS veterinarian in the shelter surgery suite. Injured limbs will be wrapped in gauze and surgeries will be stitched together with colorful yarn.
"This is a great opportunity for AHS staff and volunteers to teach kids how to interact with and care for their animals," explains AHS Executive Director Frances Jonon.
The event is free to the public and recommended for children ages 2 to 12 years with an adult. Each child needs to bring his or her own stuffed animal.
