AUSTIN -- The Austin Humane Society will reopen Friday after being closed to the public following the Halloween floods.
The shelter said Nov. 12 that it would close for awhile due to an influx of rescued animals. Kelly Hanes with AHS now says it will open Friday, Dec. 6.
The shelter has been working diligently for six weeks to help 138 animals rescued from the Onion Creek floods. Forty-seven animals are still being cared for at the shelter. Less than 10 of them will be returning home in the next few days.
On Friday the remaining animals will be up for adoption.
“We’re excited to be reopening to the public just in time for holidays,” said Hanes. “It’s been six weeks of hard and rewarding work by our staff. Now we’re all ready to find every animal here their forever home.”
AHS will also be holding a Home for the Holidays campaign. Adoption fees will be reduced to $20 Dec. 6-8.
The Austin Humane Society is located at 124 West Anderson Lane. Go here for more information.
