WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas -- Nearly 90 cats were taken in by a local humane society after being rescued from a hoarding situation which involved more than 600 animals.

The Humane Society of Williamson County and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took in the 84 barn cats on Saturday, Sept. 1 to provide temporary housing and care while officials prepare them for adoption.

"The cats range in behavior, some are socialized but many are shy or unsocialized and considered barn cats. All the cats, whether suited as a companion cat or better suited for more independent living as a barn cat, still require daily food, water, veterinary care, and protection from the elements. Horse stables, barns, feed stores, or warehouses are appropriate homes for the barn cats. HSWC will be actively seeking placements such as these for each and every one of the cats, providing them a better and humane life previously unknown,” HSWC Community Relations Manager Eran Fehily said.

Once each cat has been evaluated, they can be adopted for free starting Friday, Sept. 7. For more information click here.
