MADEIRA BEACH, Florida -- Alligators are no longer invited to pool parties in Florida, at least for now.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has asked the owner of Alligator Attraction to change the way his gator pool parties are conducted. The investigation stems from complaints after the alligator pool parties story went viral.

Among those complaints, one came from the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida. The state now wants the gators to be held, tethered or restrained by a handler at all times.

"All we're doing is recommending that he alter his business practices so that he can continue to exhibit the animals," Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Baryl Martin said.

The owner of Alligator Attraction says he is temporarily putting the pool parties on hold until he can verify that the parties are compliant with the new guidelines.
