EL PASO COUNTY, Colorado -- Fires are burning out of control in Colorado. Authorities have moved nearly 4,000 people out of their homes.

Roaring flames and high winds are making the fire hard to put out. Firefighters are struggling to contain the Black Forest Fire, one of five wildfires burning in the state.

So far no fatalities have been reported, but some homes have been burned.

The evacuation area for the Black Forest Fire is 24,000 acres. Fire crews estimate the fire has consumed between 7,500 and 8,000 acres.

The Royal George Fire has claimed thousands of acres and has gotten close to a popular park full of campers. People there are now being evacuated.

The areas threatened by the fires are rural and heavily wooded. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is warning homeowners to get ready.

"People have to be prepared; they have to make sure that their homes, if you're in a wild line fire area, to make sure your homes are defensible," he said.

The causes of the Royal George and Black Forest Fire are under investigation. Park officials say one of the other smaller fires was caused by lightning.
