AUSTIN -- Whole Foods Market has announced when its newest Austin store will arrive, as well as a big change in plans for a nearby store.
Whole Foods Market has announced its newest Austin store will open on Jan. 15, 2014 in the Domain shopping center in North Austin.
The Gateway store, located less than three miles away, will also remain open.
“After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to keep the Gateway store open in addition to opening the Domain as a new location in Austin. Our guests have told us that they’d like to continue shopping at Gateway,” said Regional President for the company’s southwest region Mark Dixon. “Every store is unique and offers shoppers an experience unlike any other grocery store. This is an exciting opportunity for our shoppers and Team Members; we’re ready to add our fifth store to the Austin metro.”
The 65,000 square foot store in the Domain will be the second largest Whole Foods in Austin. Most stores are 35,000 to 40,000 square feet.
Officials say a job fair will be held soon so the store can hire close to 300 employees.
Whole Foods Market was founded in 1980. The company now has more than 340 stores across the U.S., Canada and United Kingdom.
