AUSTIN – Rickety staircases, railings and loose banisters are a few of the reasons Austin code compliance officers want the Building and Standards Commission to take action against owners of the Settler’s Creek Condominiums in South Austin.
Code compliance officers told KVUE they received a complaint last summer at the Settler’s Creek condos. When the officers went to inspect the condos, they say they found several violations and red-tagged a number of buildings.
The officers gave the Settler’s Creek owners until late December 2013 to make the needed repairs. However, code compliance officer Todd Wilcox says when another inspection was done in January of 2014, there was still a need for repairs.
“There are some dangers, but nothing imminently dangerous of collapse, so people can still occupy the units, but they do need significant repairs,” said Todd Wilcox.
As of Wednesday evening, it wasn't clear just how long the Building and Standards Commission is giving the Settler’s Creek condo owners to get the repairs completed.
A code compliance spokesperson says any tenant can always report code violations anonymously by calling 311.
