AUSTIN -- Police are searching for a fugitive who escaped from custody while handcuffed.
Dispatchers say 22-year-old Cruz Reyes Soliz had been arrested Sunday around 7 a.m. in the 4400 block of Teri Road in Southeast Austin for burglary. Police say the suspect got into an argument with his girlfriend at an apartment. He then left and went to another residence on Peach Court where police found him.
The suspect was reportedly tasered during the arrest process and subsequently taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center as a precaution. The entire time the individual remained in police custody.
Around 10:45 a.m. the suspect was being escorted out of the hospital by officers to be transported to the Travis County Jail. It was then that police say he was able to break free and run away, while still in handcuffs.
Police searched with a helicopter and canine units. So far, he's been able to avoid arrest.
Officials say Soliz has a felony warrant on his record for burglary.
