PFLUGERVILLE -- A Central Texas church is in mourning after three of its own were killed in a rollover crash.

All pastors at Grace Christian Center in Killeen, the three were killed Thursday night on State Highway 130.

For 15 years Pastor Steve Timmerman called Grace Christian Center home.

“We often seek God in our worst times of life,” he said in a sermon earlier this year.

He gave hope to the congregation. When someone was dying Pastor Steve was by their side, helping their family cope with loss. His wife Pamela says he called it the greatest gift he could give.

“He had a special gift in it,” said Pamela. “He would do anything for anybody. He was loved by everybody.”

Thursday night the tables turned. Pamela says Steve went to the airport to pick up two other pastors with the church, husband and wife Terry and Jan. The pair was returning home from Bulgaria.

Steve was driving on SH 130 near Pflugerville when a tire blew on the van. Pieces of rubber shattered out, spilling across the road. The van then started to flip. It went off the road into the grassy median.

Pamela knew something was wrong before she ever got a phone call.

“He was about an hour late getting home and he never doesn't answer his phone,” said Pamela.

She started calling around and quickly learned what had happened. Pastors Steve, Terry and Jan had died in the crash.

The church spread the tragic news to its members online. Now they're reaching out to Pamela the same way Pastor Steve did for them for so many years.

“We do this with our faith. He was serving God. He was doing what he loved to do which was taking care of people,” said Pamela.

December would have marked their 20th wedding anniversary.

“I love him with all my heart,” said Pamela. “I keep expecting him to walk through the door.”

Pamela says she will lean on her family at the church and cherish some of the last words Pastor Steve ever shared. She says she'll be waiting for the day when she'll see him and Pastors Terry and Jan again.

Grace Christian Center is meeting at 7 p.m. Friday for a memorial for their pastors. Funeral arrangements are underway.
