The Longhorn baseballers find themselves in a position that's unusual. Texas is un-ranked and not expected to contend for the Big 12 Championship, much less a spot in the College World Series.
This is based on last year's 30-22 season which ended with UT not advancing the N.C.A.A. regional field of 64 for the 1st time since the latter part of the 1990's.
During that sub par 2012 season, Texas experienced several key injuries to pitchers in the starting rotation and other members of the starting lineup.
When asked if the team is playing the underdog role this season or if the team has something to prove, Texas 1st baseman Alex Silver said "Absolutely not!"
