WILLIAMSON COUNTY -- Jana Duty was once a long-shot challenger against longtime Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley. But Tuesday night, current county attorney Duty took over that office.

Duty beat Bradley in the primary in May.  Tuesday night, Duty had 60 percent of the vote to Democrat Ken Crain's 40 percent in heavily Republican Williamson County.

KVUE reporter Melissa Mahadeo was at Duty's watch party at the Wingate in Round Rock watching reactions to the win.

Duty said following Michael Morton’s wrongful conviction in the murder his wife, trust in the Williamson County justice system has lingered.

She said she plans to restore it by implementing an open file policy between prosecutors and defense attorneys.

“There needs to be openness. There needs to be fairness in the system so that what happened in the Michael Morton case does not happen again," Jana Duty said.
