An early morning house fire broke out in Mustang Ridge.
The fire started in a house on Shively Lane near Highway 183 shortly after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters say three people were in the house when the fire started. It woke them up, and they were able to get outside and call 911.
Firefighters with the Travis County Fire Department found fire and smoke filling up the back of the house. It spread up into the attic and through the roof.
There are no water hydrants in the area. Firefighters had to call for extra resources from the Austin Fire Department, Manchaca Fire and Rescue and Travis County Fire Control.
In all, about eight trucks arrived and nearly two dozen firefighters fought the blaze.
The crews put out the fire quickly and kept it contained to the back of the house, but it caused substantial damage to a back bedroom, bathroom, water heater closet and the roof.
The American Red Cross is offering the residents assistance.
Fire marshals are searching through the damage to find out how the fire started.
