AUSTIN -- Thursday was a very special day for Austin's oldest living World War II veteran.
Richard Overton is 107 years old and arrived at Pearl Harbor just weeks after the attack drew the U.S. into the war.
Thursday volunteers from Austin Community College, Home Depot, and the city's veterans services office all pitched in to make some repairs and renovations to his home in East Austin.
The work included a new paint job, a new fence and replacing broken windows.
"It means a whole lot," Overton said. "I'll never forget this. I know this is something I needed, but I never thought I'd get it. So I appreciate every bit of it."
Earlier this year, the Austin City Council issued a proclamation honoring Overton. The Honor Flight Group also took him to Washington D.C. to see the monuments honoring World War II veterans.
