Austin is about to get some of the fastest Internet service in the world. Google plans to offer high-speed web access throughout the city- extending the reach of its network that 's more than 100 times faster than some broadband services. It's called Google Fiber. It will start its first customer installations in Austin in the middle of next year. While pricing hasn't been set, it will be similar to Kansas City, where Google charges $70 a month for a high-speed connection and $120 a month for web and TV service.
General Electric plans to cut 950 jobs at a Pennsylvania locomotive plant. It is shifting some production to a lower-cost factory in Texas. The new plant in Fort Worth is about 20 percent more efficient than the Erie, Pennsylvania facility, which is more than 100 years old.
