Regulars at establishments in the Red River Street area and dozens more in Austin’s music scene are mourning the deaths of a very popular bartender and his fiancé from this weekend.

According to Austin police, Sergio Rangel and Ari Said, both 24-years-old, were in a Mustang traveling southbound on Woodward near the frontage road of  Ben White around 2:30 Saturday morning when they ran a red light.

The couple was broadsided by a Ford Excursion, which had the right of way. The passengers in the Excursion had only minor injuries, according to police. The crash caused the Excursion to hit another car in the process, but those passengers are also okay

“Whoever met him is definitely feeling this loss,” said Scott Ducar, Sergio’s roommate and friend for seven years.

Ducar also told KVUE that Rangel was a fixture in the Red River area and in Austin’s music scene.

“He was working at Varsity and Headhunters simultaneously. He had worked at Room 710 before, Encore before that,” added Ducar.

“Without a doubt the nicest person that was hanging out down there,” added Corri Mova, another friend of Sergio Rangel’s.

“He was a gentleman. He made sure that girls got to their cars safely. He basically made sure that everybody was okay,” added Mova in an interview with KVUE Monday afternoon.

Friends say Headhunters Bar at 8th and Red River is inviting all of Rangel’s friends and customers to come out in his honor Wednesday night because Wednesday is when Rangel used to work at Headhunters.
