LAGO VISTA, Texas -- Pedernales emergency officials say a vacation to the Resort Ranch of Lake Travis in Spicewood turned deadly Saturday night.

Three men, who are believed to be from out of town, drove off a 100-foot cliff near the resort marina. Two of them died.

"There were roads out there but they weren't paved. Maybe they got lost or turned around," said Lieutenant Steve Rudkin of Pedernales Emergency Services. "I know walking back there I got turned around two or three times. It's very thick brush grown over the roadway that 's there."

At 10 p.m. Saturday the owner of the property told investigators he saw the men driving around in a pickup truck. At midnight a call came in to 911 from one of the men. He was pinned underneath the truck.

"The patient was trapped and had to locate a cell phone. No idea if he lost consciousness or for how long," said Rudkin.

It took emergency crews between 30 and 45 minutes to locate the vehicle and officials say the heavy rain only hurt the rescue operation.

"It's been raining off and on all night. And in fact we had a difficult time at first getting STAR Flight to come due to weather," added Rudkin.

Crews spent an hour and a half working to free the only survivor of the crash. He was taken to  University Medical Center Brackenridge. His condition is unknown.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
