AUSTIN -- In this Eat Drink and Be Wary, one restaurant fails back to back health inspections, and two others have problems with ants and roaches.
We begin at Señor Buddy's in South Austin on Highway 290 West. It failed its August 5th Austin-Travis County Health inspection with a score of 59.
Critical problems included flies in the food prep area, dirty food contact surfaces. Also rice, beans, and tacos held at the wrong temperature.
On the required follow-up inspection on August 15, Señor Buddy's failed again with a score of 64.
It had problems once again with flies in the prep area. There were also dirty knives, can openers, and soda nozzles.
On the second required follow-up inspection on August 23, Senor Buddy's on Highway 29 passed with a score of 96. The inspector noted on the report that it was "much improved, good job."
Next stop, Lily's Sandwich at 10901 North Lamar Boulevard. It failed its August 29th health inspection with a score of 64.
Violations include roaches in the kitchen, along with the improper cold holding of beef, tomatoes, and sausage. It was all thrown out. The inspector also noted an employee handling ready to eat food without gloves.
On the required follow-up inspection on September 24th, Lilly's Sandwich on North Lamar passed with a score of 84.
The final stop this week is Villa Mexico Restaurant at 4619 South Congress Avenue. It failed its August 13th health inspection with a score of 50.
Violations include ants crawling on the wall, no hot water in the men's restroom, and cold holding violations for the sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, and shrimp.
On the required follow-up inspection on August 23rd, Villa Mexico Restaurant passed with a score of 76.
