CEDAR PARK, Texas -- Business is booming in Cedar Park. The city is working on more than a dozen projects right now.
A Wal-Mart Super Center will soon be on the corner of 1431 and Parmer. Just three miles west, a Costco will be built by the end of the year.
City leaders say this area has become the hotspot for growth and they have a lot planned over the next couple of years.
George Poe opened Cedar Park Jewelry in 2006. He's known for his big personality and colorful Hawaiian shirts.
"It's a great time to be here," he said.
Poe left Houston so he could own a mom and pop shop in the Hill Country. He says in just seven years he has expanded his store four times.
"We went from, you know, three employees to 16 now," Poe said. "The growth is unbelievable, the town is fantastic."
The city says they're presently working on between 13 and 15 projects with companies who want to do business in Cedar Park.
"We're seeing significant interest in manufacturing, technology companies that are all interested in the Central Texas region," said Larry Holt with Cedar Park Economic Development.
Holt says the city has already become a sector for automotive technology, clean technology and oil services, now they're seeing lots of retail interest, specifically near 1431 and Parmer.
"We've got everyone from Wal-Mart to Torchy's Tacos that want to be in that hotspot of Cedar Park growth," Holt said.
Holt said while many people used to just live in Cedar Park and work elsewhere, that number is starting to change.
"Our employment has grown since 2005, it's gone from about 5,000 employees in the city to about 15,000 now," he said.
"It has blown up our store so fast, it just is mind boggling," Poe said. "This is our hub and this town is growing, it is unbelievable."
The city says there's only so much room to grow so they're also looking at ways to redevelop some of the older parts of Cedar Park along 183.
They also told KVUE News plans for Schlitterbahn waterpark are still underway but no other details can be released at this time.
A new site called Imagine Cedar Park is designed for residents to give their feedback on the future of the city and what they would like to see.
