AUSTIN -- Happy April Fool's from the City of Austin.
The City released a press release announcing that Esquire magazine has named Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell as "America's Best Dressed Mayor."
A former navy aviator and commercial airline pilot, Leffingwell says his style comes from his years of flying, the release stated.
Here's the press release in full:
"Esquire Magazine has announced it will name Austin's Mayor Lee Leffingwell as "America's Best Dressed Mayor" in the magazine's April issue.
Since the launch of Esquire in 1933, the magazine has profiled dozens of "Best Dressed Men" including Carey Grant, George Clooney, and Ryan Gosling. Esquire has also highlighted "Best Dressed Mayors" in the past, including former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, and former Baltimore Mayor and current Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley. This is a first-time nod to Austin and Leffingwell.
A former Navy aviator and commercial airline pilot, Leffingwell said his style comes from his years of flying.
"I mostly wear what's comfortable," said Leffingwell. "I like a shirt with a pocket - it's good for a pen or if you want to hold on to a note, or maybe keep certain kinds of food for later, like a biscuit. In the summertime, I like to wear short sleeves. It's cooler that way. Oh, and I also wear sensible shoes."
The magazine will appear on national newsstands today, April 1st."
