AUSTIN -- Flood victims are preparing for another chilly night without heat as they stay in their water-damaged homes.

Angela Doetsch is staying in her gutted house instead of a shelter because of her pets.

"Sleeping in lots of layers, hats, clothes, but we are making due," said Doetsch.

Other families are sleeping in tents, cars and travel trailers. Jasmine White has to stay with a friend so she can go to school.

"The hardest part is not seeing my family," said White. Her family members are living apart after flood waters damaged the only house she has ever lived in.

"The water came in and through the walls, and we really didn't have time. We had to leave a lot of stuff," said White.

The Red Cross is providing shelter to flood victims at the Dove Springs Recreation Center. Tuesday night 44 flood victims stayed there.
