AUSTIN -- A SWAT team with Austin police says a man who refused to leave a home in North Austin, when police tried serving a warrant, is now in custody.

The call came in shortly before 3:30 p.m. of a man inside a home, located in the 1200 block of Fairfield Dr.

Police tell KVUE News the man, 35-year-old Mark Anthony Cunningham, was wanted for possession of a controlled substance, a violation of his parole. He is also wanted on a separate warrant for evading police.

Police used flash bangs to draw the man out of the home. They were eventually able to force Cunningham out of the home using gas canisters.

According to Austin police Cunningham has a history of gang activity and is known to have possessed weapons in the past.

Neighbors in the immediate area had been evacuated as hostage negotiators attempted to communicate with Cunningham over a public announcement system.

There were no injuries reported.

Cunningham is being treated by emergency medical services and will be taken to jail once medical teams complete their evaluation.
