AUSTIN -- The Austin School District started off this year's all-staff convocation with a musical number.
The school-themed rendition of the hit song "Call My Maybe" set the tone for Wednesday's meeting. Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen congratulated teachers and staff for their accomplishments over the past year.
They discussed future goals for the district, including continuing to improve attendance rates.
"If we improve it by just one percent, we've raised $5 million," Dr. Carstarphen said. "If we had a hundred percent graduation rate, guess how much that would raise? $25 million dollars."
The superintendent will be joining us at KVUE later this week to talk about the upcoming school year.
Students return to class on Monday, Aug. 27.
