HARRIS COUNTY – A lot of questions are being asked after an explosive hit-and-run accident left a motorcycle rider dead Saturday evening in east Harris County, deputies said.
The accident happened just after 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Uvalde Road when a man on a motorcycle was hit by an SUV, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
The rider, Thomas Hopper, had made a left turn just as he exited a parking lot and was heading north on Uvalde when a maroon-colored Isuzu Ascender, also traveling north, hit the motorcycle, deputies said.
Witnesses said the rider flew off the motorcycle after the SUV plowed into the motorcycle. The bike was dragged for almost a 100 yards before both the Ascender and motorcycle exploded.
The driver of the Ascender and a passenger fled the scene on foot and failed to stop and render aid, deputies said.
The victim was taken to East Houston Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the SUV was reportedly stolen during a car-jacking. This case is still under investigation.
