PHOENIX, Arizona -- There are simple and natural ways that you can make your own personal care products.
Residue removing shampoo: This is great for removing hairspray and styling products prior to coloring your hair or if your hair becomes limp and weighted down with styling products. Simply combine your regular shampoo with baking soda to form a paste about the thickness of white school glue. Apply to the hair and work through from the roots to the ends. Work it in well and then rinse thoroughly. Do not rub the scalp harshly.
Green hair: Many times blonds will find that their hair takes on a greenish hue after swimming in a chlorinated pool. To remove that dissolve eight to 10 aspirin tablets in a little hot water. Once they are dissolved add enough warm water to equal one cup. Work through the strands of hair and let sit 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
Making your own dry shampoo: Sometimes you just don’t have time to wash your hair or you don’t want to take the body out of it. To remove any oiliness, mix together about ½ cup of bran and two tablespoons of baking soda. Rub into and through the hair and then brush out well.
Looking for a natural inexpensive toner? Buy witch hazel at the drug store. Wash your face and then rub the witch hazel over it with a cotton pad. It is wonderful for hot days too. Simply dampen a cotton pad or ball with it and blot over your face. It won’t ruin makeup and feels great.
Nail polish tips: For no-smear nails, brush on a little baby oil over just-polished nails to prevent nicks and chipping. Your nail polish will last longer if you apply a little vinegar to each nail with a cotton swab prior to applying your nail polish. The acid in the vinegar makes the polish adhere better.
Sooth irritated puffy eyes: A cold tea bag will refresh your eyes and reduce puffiness. I moisten teabags and wring to almost dry and then place over my eyes for 15 minutes. You can also take the moistened teabags and freeze individually and then drop into a plastic bag. Remove 2 teabags and lay over eyes to reduce puffiness and refresh.
