BASTROP COUNTY -- Wednesday marks two years since the massive wildfires in Bastrop County.
The September 2011 blaze killed two people, burned 34,000 acres and destroyed nearly 1,700 homes and businesses.
Sixteen volunteer firefighters lost their homes while trying to save others. The fire was the costliest in state history and the third worst in U.S. history.
Bastrop County says there are still 17,000 trees that are still a threat. Crews are working to cut them down. The project is expected to take about another 18 weeks to complete.
