ELROY, Texas -- An investigation is underway after a fatal rollover crash on SH 130 Friday morning.

Travis County deputies responded to the crash around 7 a.m. They closed off traffic, forcing all southbound drivers to exit at Elroy Road.

An F-250 pickup truck flipped over and landed on a grassy median separating the northbound from the southbound lanes.

DPS Trooper Robbie Barrera says the driver lost control when one of the back tires blew out. It was hauling a trailer at the time of the blow-out.

The driver got trapped inside in the impact. Barrera says another driver who saw the crash pulled over and helped get him out. Two others passengers managed to crawl out on their own. A third passenger died immediately. At the time there was only light fog outside.

Troopers believe the crash could have been prevented if the tire had been maintained.

“This could probably have been preventable. By individuals maintaining their vehicles, make sure that all tires are aired properly and in good working condition, make sure that all the fluid levels are accurate in the vehicle and when you get out on the road if you've got any kind of weather conditions slow your speed down due to those weather condition,” said DPS Trooper Robbie Barrera.

Troopers say the truck belongs to a company called Aaron Concrete Contractors. The owners came out to speak with investigators Friday morning but did not identify the men in the truck.

Troopers haven’t released any names. They say the driver suffered critical injuries. The two passengers who survived are expected to be okay.

It remains unknown whether any of the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Troopers say the driver did have his seatbelt buckled.
