Traffic shift coming for SB MoPac near downtown

AUSTIN - After earlier delays, crews are set to realign southbound MoPac near the downtown exits starting Friday evening.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority said the new alignment will be between Enfield Road and Lady Bird Lake/Town Lake. The change will move the 5th Street/Cesar Chavez exit further south. The initial information, released Wednesday, said the work was weather depending.

If the work is not delayed again, crews will close the southbound MoPac exits to Cesar Chavez Street, 5th Street and Lake Austin Boulevard exits starting at 10 p.m. Nov. 4. The right lane of southbound MoPac between Westover Road and the lake will also be closed. CTRMA said southbound MoPac will completely close at some point in the early hours of Nov. 5 for a brief period as the traffic switch is implemented.

If there are no additional delays, CTRMA said all lanes of southbound MoPac should reopen no later than 6 a.m. Nov. 5.
